Definition of a Life Member
Life Membership is generally considered to be the highest award an organization can bestow upon one of its members. Life membership in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (“CJSA”) is no different. The CJSA awards life membership in recognition of the exceptional contributions of an individual to the CJSA, to the community and to the sport of soccer. Accordingly, a life member should be an exceptional citizen who has consistently contributed to the CJSA over an extended period of time, and who has demonstrated a significant and sustained commitment toward the enhancement and reputation of the CJSA.
In order to be eligible for life membership, an individual must be, or have been, member of the CJSA; this membership may be in any of a variety of capacities, including but not limited to, a Board member, an administrator, a coach, a referee, a volunteer or as a financial or material contributor.
Nomination and Election Process
Any CJSA Board member eligible to vote at CJSA meetings and any life member may nominate an individual or individuals for life member status in the CJSA but may not self nominate or nominate family members. Such nominations must be submitted in writing to the CJSA State Administrator by October 1. Nominations may include up to three letters of recommendation.
At the October BOD meeting, the State Administrator of the CJSA will present any Life Member nominations received to the BOD for their consideration. If none of the nominees meet the criteria for life membership in a given year, they will not be eligible for life membership at that time. If more than one nominee meets the criteria in a single year, the BOD will determine the number of nominees who will be eligible for life membership that year.
The Board of Directors will consider the qualifications of the candidates and vote for or against awarding life membership to the nominee at the November BOD meeting. Two-thirds of the Board of Directors present at the meeting must approve the nomination or life membership will not be awarded to the nominee that year. The Board of Directors vote will be by ballot. The Board of Directors is not required to approve any nominee for life membership.
